Long-time girlfriend and I eloped to SRP this summer. She’d done a good deal of research prior and anticipated our stay. I didn’t, and was simply content with the prospect of daily escapes to the beach, Red Stripes in tow. A word to couples considering resort options in Jamaica or the Caribbean for that matter: Book a stay at the Royal Plantation now! Reviews all over the ‘net of SRP are overwhelmingly glowing for a reason – it is truly a remarkable place exclusively for couples. Accommodations are top-notch, its restaurants tantalize and will satisfy even the most discerning of taste buds - Wine Selection, btw, of Le Papillon is impressive. Its setting is picturesque and intimate. The peacocks frolicking around the resort add a lovely touch. The beaches are turquoise slices of paradise. Timid or outgoing, if you have a pulse, night entertainment will stoke movement and contagious laughter. There’s plenty to do as well. I highly recommend a couples massage, candlelight dinner and the Dunn’s River Cruise. But alas, checklist and review of activities not needed here; website has that covered. What I will touch and emphasize on is the unparalleled level of service and attention endowed upon my wife and I throughout our stay. Some adjectives come to mind: World-Class, Hospitable, Charming, Genuine, Captivating, Prompt and how about a noun – WOW! The crown jewel of this resort is the staff for sure. Our butlers Sheldon and Richard altruistically catered to our every whim and flawlessly handled every aspect of our itinerary- ‘Respect mon’ to you both! On the beach, Cleon and Adrian (‘Biggs’) merit high praise for their tireless service and engaging conversation. Our wedding coordinator Naomi was a consummate professional, a doll and true sweetheart. Our photographers, Dwayne and Shavel worked magic for our album; spectacular work guys! Delgardo hosted our candlelight dinner and struck a chord with us as he is a special young man. Mr. Fantastic put a smile on our faces during breakfast at ‘The Terrace’ -ackee and lobster in the morning, ‘nuff said. Night entertainers at the Wobbly Peacock were terrific; Oshane, Jason and Andre at piano made EVERY night memorable! I must also mention the ultra-friendly staff in the spa; we loved you as well. Hospitality industry please take note: this is how it should be done. A truly MAGICAL stay for us! We’re booked to return!
Sometimes you want to try something new, but sometimes you want to do what’s comfortable. Royal Plantation is that space you go to when you need to get away from it all and leave your cares at the doorstep. We love this place. This was our second stay and we’re booked for 2012 to return. I don’t see us trading in that comfortable space for a new dance partner anytime soon. It helps that Royal Plantation is one of the most beautiful properties on Earth, but it’s truly the staff that make this place shine above the rest. Construction and Updates: From the last time we had stayed at Royal Plantation there have been a few changes which are all for the good. They are currently under construction with a beach bathroom on the east side of the property. Just in the short week we were there the progress on the bathrooms was evident. They will be a nice addition. Also, they are building a new jetty which will then create a bigger crescent beach on the east side with a dedicated spot for the watersports boats. Love this. Staff: This is where the resort really shines. There really are too many names to mention everyone because everyone has a part in making your stay special. It all starts at the top with Peter Fraser, the long-time general manager of the property. You see him directing others but you also see him serving drinks and opening doors for guests. He truly leads by example. Gladstone is the long-time bar manager at the pub. He’s professional in every sense of the word and remembers what you like and makes sure your glass is always full. If you go to RP make sure to spend some time at the bar with G-stone. You’ll be glad you did. However our brothers from other mothers would have to be Biggs the Beach Butler (Adrian is his real name) and Mickhael the water sports manager. These guys are more than staff to us, they really are family and friends. Each time we’ve been we always feel like we are their most important guests. Biggs will bring you your favorite drink to the beach chair before you even ordered it in the morning. He wants to know about you and never ceases to amaze. And he’s having a baby soon! NEXT WEEK! Always a smile on his face and we can’t thank him enough. It’s a good day when you can start it with a mangosa (mango juice and sparkling wine) in the morning served by Biggs. It was our 5th stay with Sandals and our best
Our vacation at the Royal Plantation was wonderful. The resort is beautiful and the staff pay great attention to every detail. The Snorkel Crew - Jordan and Chad made every outing an interesting and fun adventure. They are very knowledgable of the fish and corals of the area and are mindful to ensure everyone is safe. This was our 20th anniversary and everyone helped to make it a very special time. We were serenaded on the Terrace by staff and a special treat was brought to the table. Every gesture was sincere and treasured. Our Butlers Orayne and Marvin were wonderful. They made our vacation that much more special and their little surprises were appreciated. The Management staff take great care to ensure their departments were always on the game. The General Manager Mark Starkie is very visible throughout the resort and takes time to talk with all guests. This is refreshing to see. We will definitely return to the Royal Plantation to enjoy the beauty and excellent service.
We just returned from an 8 day visit to Sandals Royal Plantation. Without a doubt, this was the best, most relaxing vacation we have ever had. First, the resort is beautiful. It sits on a bluff overlooking the ocean. The landscaping and architectural details are stunning. The beaches are small...but never crowded, and very secluded. The view from the pool and hot tub was wonderful. We booked the Honeymoon Oceanfront Verandah suite - it was a large room, with a very large verandah, and giant shower and whirlpool tub. The room was clean, nicely air conditioned, and was well stocked with champagne, beer, soft drinks, juices, scotch, and rum. I had mentioned to our butler that I like cognac - 10 minutes later a bottle of Courvoisier appeared in our room. Finally, the service, top to bottom, was outstanding. Mark Starkey, the GM, sets the tone - he is always present, checking on guests, with a clear attention to detail - and you can tell he loves his job, and his staff. The staff, from housekeeping, to servers, to butlers, etc - were extremely helpful and accommodating. A few people who stood out to us. - our butlers, Richard and Sheldon; the beach butlers, Adrian and Cleon; Davian at the Royal Grill; Yanquie, Sean, and young Richard at the Wobbly Peacock; Dowarge; Sonjay at the Grill; Hushane; O'Shane and Jason - awesome entertainment; Andre, fantastic piano,; and last, but not least, Delgardo, who made our trip magical with a candlelight dinner - he exemplifies the heart and soul of the Royal Plantation. The week couldn't have been better - lazy days at the beach, great food, romantic moments, couples massages at the spa, dancing every night...we also were very fortunate to meet another couple early in our visit, and had a wonderful time sharing our holiday with them. We have already booked another visit for next year, and we hope this will be an annual event for us. We don't need or want swim-up bars, loud parties, or lots of participatory games - that isn't us. We want a relaxing, stress free vacation with all of the romantic touches, and this is the place. It could not have been more wonderful.
On the occasion of our 50th Anniversary, we experienced the "Royal" treatment at Sandals Royal Plantation, from the decorated room door on our arrival to the lavish anniversary gifts during our stay. I write this 6 days before our return to celebrate number 51.
Everything was great. Our favorite things included the dining , the staff, and the watersports . The Jamacian people were so nice. Thank you for a wonderful week in paradise.
