This month we spoke to Marketing Director, Jenny, about her recent trip to Sandals Royal Barbados. Jenny gives us an insight into why she chose Sandals Royal Barbados, what it's like to stay in a South Seas Hideaway Crystal Lagoon Club Level Suite with Balcony Tranquillity Soaking Tub, her top three tips for anyone travelling to Sandals Royal Barbados and much more.
What was the purpose of your trip?
Like most people, the past two years has meant very little travel – so at our first opportunity we travelled to Sandals Royal Barbados for 10 days of pure relaxation.
Why did you choose Sandals Royal Barbados?
It was a tough choice! However, in the end it was the selection of restaurants, white-sand beach, and the choice of excursions around the island that won us over. There’s also a great mix of lively and quieter areas on resort, so we could join in as much or as little as we wanted. A perfect blend.
What were your first impressions about your suite?
We were lucky enough to stay in a South Seas Hideaway Crystal Lagoon Club Level Suite with Balcony Tranquillity Soaking Tub. These rooms are based in the new Saint Lawrence building in the South Seas village which has its own pool, bar, and two restaurants. It’s perfectly located for both Sandals Royal Barbados and Sandals Barbados, so all the resorts’ amenities are within easy reach. My favourite thing about our room was the tranquillity soaking tub on the balcony – perfect for catching the sunset with a glass of bubbles in hand.
What did you love most about the resort?
It’s such a beautiful resort, with incredible gardens and the white-sand beach is truly incredible. However, what I loved most is the choice it offered. From the different pools (some offering a lively vibe whilst others offered total peace and tranquillity) to the abundance of restaurant options, we spent 10 days enjoying new experiences each day. If you’re looking for a true Sandals experience, then Barbados is the island for you.
Which restaurant did you have your most enjoyable meal in?
Tricky…the food at Sandals Royal Barbados was incredible and we had so many highlights! If I had to choose, I’d say Chi, which serves modern Asian cuisine. We had a selection of sushi and sashimi to start and then the soft-shell crab, which is a must! I’d also recommend visiting Bombay at Sandals Barbados as well and asking for a selection of the starters to sample.
Barbados is known for having some of the most mesmerising and pristine shores in the Caribbean, perfect for lounging on soft white sand or trying new water sports. Did you take part in any activities?
Make sure you book a spot on the complimentary snorkelling trip at the Dive Shop – it’s free for all guests and it’s absolutely fantastic. You’re picked up in a minibus and it’s just a short drive to the dive boat. We were taken to two different snorkelling spots where we spotted turtles, rays and tropical fish. If you have an underwater camera, make sure to pack it!
What are your top three tips for anyone travelling to Sandals Royal Barbados?
(1) Book your restaurants at the Club Lounge when you arrive if you’re staying in a Club Level suite or through your Butler if you’re in a Butler Suite – there are a few restaurants you need to book, so make sure to book them when you arrive so you don’t miss out. If you’re in a Luxury room, you can still do this through the Culinary Concierge
(2) Watch the sunset – the sunset in Barbados is totally magical. Head down to the beach or the rooftop bar for the best views
(3) Experience a bit of Barbados – it’s such an incredible island with so much to see and do, with white sand beaches, markets, incredible food and so much more! During our stay we booked a Catamaran Cruise and hired a car to explore the island, as well as heading to Ostin’s Fish Fry which is an absolute must on a Friday night to sample the local seafood
